Baseball megastar Sammy Sosa has tested positive to the use of anabolic steroids from a test run back in 2003. Sosa, who is currently awaiting a Hall Of Fame induction, rose to prominence in 1998 when a race began against Mark McGwire to beat the single-season home run record.
McGwire went on to hold that record. Sosa ended the season with 66, behind McGwire’s 70. However, Sosa is the first one to hit 60 or more in back-to-back seasons. Fans later cried foul at the record by McGwire when he tested positive for performance drugs later in 2003.
On June 3, 2009, Sosa announced his desire to retire and was looking forward to his induction within the Baseball Hall of Fame. Though Sosa has been rumored to use anabolic steroids in the past, this however is the first time news of a positive result have been made public.
