In a brief moment of what can only be described as a lunacy induced ego maniacal moment, controversial entertainment figure Kanye West briefly interrupted singer Taylor Swift’s VMA acceptance speech for her Best Female Video “You Belong To Me,” which beat several other contenders, among them Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)”. West interrupted the speech in an exceptional breach of decorum, adding the final touch to the moment via his complaint the Beyonce’s video was one of the “best videos of all time”.
Swift, who was paralyzed for what seemed television eternity, had us at the edge of expectation as we slowly imagined her throwing both mic and astronaut to the floor before fleeing. But not so, audience support and the “show must go on” cue from producers had her leaving the stage both shocked, awed and ultimately saddened that her trumpets of triumph blew a sour note… at the hands of an angry fool.
This is a number two in a week of rowdy and disrespectful interruptions, as President Barack Obama received a ‘You Lie!’ heckle from Republican Joe Wilson, who has proudly raised more than a million bucks after the incident. Maybe Mr. West hopes for the same kind of results.
