Basque terrorist organization ETA announced it would cease hostilities in San Sebastian, Spain today ending over four decades of separatists actions.

The Euzkadi Ta Askatasuna, or Basque Fatherland and Liberty movement, released a statement calling and end to its 43-year-old streak of violence.

The move comes after three days of talks with high-ranking political figures, including former U.N. director-general Kofi Annan and Irelands Sinn Fein leader, Gerry Adams.

ETA calls upon the Spanish and French governments to open a process of a direct dialogue, the statement read, with the aim of addressing the resolution of the consequences of the conflict.

The intent of the move remains unclear, as ETA has not announced any intention to dissolve or any plans on whether the organization will require imprisoned members to be released.

ETA as been on the U.S. list of terrorist organizations and has a history of bloody attacks against the French and Spanish governments.
